Cancer
The term cancer refers to a large number of diseases whose only common feature is uncontrolled cell growth and proliferation. Although cancer can affect any dog of any age, there does however appear to be a pre-disposition among certain breeds or families of dogs to develop specific types of cancer. Anecdotal evidence would seem to indicate that Cesky terriers may be pre-disposed to lymphoma (cancer of the white blood cells). The clustering of specific cancers in breeds and families suggests that there may be a genetic component in the development of the disease.
The Animal Cancer Trust is a registered charity totally committed to funding
the fight against cancer in our pets.
If your Cesky Terrier is diagnosed with Cancer (of any kind) please take the time to fill in a Cancer Report form and return it to the Cesky Terrier Club.
Health
The Cesky Terrier is a healthy breed, but as with all living creatures, very occasionally problems can occur.
As the Cesky Terrier was developed from a combination of Scottish and Sealyham Terriers, it is always possible that conditions found in those two breeds could be seen also in the Cesky Terrier.
It must be stressed that these conditions are not widespread. The Cesky Terrier is, in general, a very healthy breed, and many live a long life, with very infrequent visits to the veterinary surgery.
