With the exciting news that scientists at the Animal Health Trust have identified the gene mutation that causes Progressive Lens Luxation, the way is open to identify any dogs that carry this gene.
To date PLL has never been seen in the Cesky Terrier in the UK, although isolated cases have been found elsewhere.
Cathryn Mellersh, canine genetics research group leader at the AHT, has offered to initiate a research project for the Cesky Terrier Club. This involves genotyping 50 different Cesky terriers, all with different sires and dams. This sample is sufficient to be able to establish whether the gene mutation is found in the Cesky Terrier or not.
